A Weekend in Clifton, TX

Fourth of July weekend is always full of fun, friends, and surprises! I usually stay in Dallas but this year, I went with my friend, Becky, and her family to Clifton, TX! Yes…it is small. But, we brought the party!

We headed out on Friday afternoon and jammed out to everything from Britney, Destiny’s Child, Kelly Pickler…ok I’ll stop there.

We stayed at THE CUTEST b&b called The Screen Door Inn. For breakfast, instead of the typical continental surprises, we would walk next door and get a full American Breakfast…FRESH. From homemade biscuits and gravy to scrambled eggs, fresh marmalade, bacon…YUM!

Ok, so back to our trip…

We settled in and kicked the weekend off with some nice bubbles that we picked up on the way (thank you Pogos!)

We walked a block to our steak dinner at Mitchell’s Grille. I had the 10oz Grilled Pork Chop with Raspberry Peach Chipotle Glaze and Becky got the Filet of Beef Tenderloin. Let’s just say…our plates were completely clean!

After we were completely stuffed, we walked back to the Screen Door for more wine (of course!)

Needless to say, I slept GREAT! Next morning (after our delicious breakfast) we walked a few blogs to the farmers market! It was literally about 5 vendors…but I got some good stuff! Farm fresh eggs, cheese, and grass fed beef! When we decided we were hungry again, we made our way to the Red Caboose Winery. We tasted and relaxed with the vineyard as our backdrop…I could easily spend an entire day there. From Blanc du Bosque to Merlot, Tempranillo, and Port, Red Caboose has some great Texas wines to choose from! Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the vineyard view or sit amongst the barrels for your tasting. It’s a family run business that focuses on sustainability. You might even be able to catch some live music on their outdoor stage! Here are just a few photos…

Of course Fourth of July weekend would not be complete without FIREWORKS! So, we made our way to the ranch! I’ve never seen so much food in my life…nor have I ever had John Deere deliver my smoked ribs…

Of course, a party would not be complete without wine! Rieslings and vertical Zins!

We headed back Sunday morning and (of course) I HAD to stop in H.E.B. So glad I did because I found the PERFECT ingredient to pair with my farm fresh eggs….TRUFFLE BUTTER :)

So, here’s what I did…

First, I cooked a piece of bacon in a skillet. In the bacon fat, I melted some truffle butter. Then…I scrambled my farm fresh eggs in the skillet (YUM). While this was going on…I toasted some bread WITH the truffle butter on top in the oven. When the eggs were done, I put them on top of the toast, then added a few slices of my farm fresh cheddar cheese, then topped it with bacon…OH EM GEE

See you next time Clifton!
